Blooming for GBBD July 2011 and FF

The dry, hot and humid weather we have been experiencing here is ideal for some of my garden flowers who are showing their beautiful and colourful flowers and foliage, just in time for the monthly and weekly flaunting of flowers hosted by two of the garden bloggers, Carol and Tootsie.

first bloom of cosmos caudatus (ulam raja)

wild ruellia tuberosa

desert rose

Autumn Belle had so kind enough to let me know the name of this flower which looks like angelonia but much bigger and no fragrance. Its called Otacanthus caeruleus or Brazilian snapdragon or Amazon blue. Thank you Autumn Belle!

red malvaviscus arboreus (a miniature type of hibiscus)

tibourchina urvilleana

peach hibiscus

pink impatiens balsamina

pink ruellia brittoniana/ruellia tweediana or Mexican petunia or Mexican blue bell

blue flowers of one type of coleus

attractive colours of foliage of another

You've shown some pretty blooms today. The pink Ruellia is lovely and I love that miniature Hibiscus.

beautiful colors you have there. Do you know that those first two plants are considered weeds here, they are everywhere and difficult to eradicate. So maybe they are invasive, so you must take care there. That Ruellia britoniana i dont see here yet.

Blotanical is getting to be a pain in the neck here. I has not been letting me comment so many places without accessing the blog directly and independently. Bah humbug.

Anyway, your blooms are so exotic looking and really pretty this July. In fact they put me back in a better mood, flowers do that BTW. I love the bright color in your garden, especially your hibiscus. I have two white and purple that I am hoping to see flowers sometime this year hopefully. Have a great GBBD.

Thanks Bernie!

Andrea, thank you.I know that ruellia tuberosa is weeds in my garden, they pop-up everywhere but I love them cos of their bright purple blooms. I even planted them in hanging pots and in my garden beds! The cosmos caudatus is grown as herb here more for the young shoots than their pink blooms. The fragrance shoots are eaten raw as salad.Ruellia Britoniana is also known as Ruellia tweediana, Mexican petunia or Mexican blue bells, they are quite common here.

Donna, I know how you felt, I have the same problem when commenting on some blogs too. I also have the white hibiscus, purple hibiscus? Love to see that!

Hahha..Rainfield, it is grown for its ulam not the small Raja! Though its a lovely bonus with those pink blooms..

Thanks Sage, I love the combinations of colours of coleus too, they brighten up my flower beds!

Thank you Rosie...those are my ever blooming pink frangipanis!

Thanks Christine, the Ruellia Brittoniana or Ruellia tweediana are also known as Mexican petunia or Mexican blue bells.

Diana, kiambang sentiasa ada yang kembang tapi pasal dah selalu tunjuk, nanti jemu pulak kan...

Aloha Noel, thank you!

We sometimes grow the Coleus for Summer bedding, not hardy of course in this part of the world. You have so many interesting plants in your garden, would love to be able to grow the Hibiscus here.

Nice display of flowers and colourful foliage. Now that Kakdah is very much into orchids, other flowering plants don't get high in her priority list.... semua yang bawak dari Putrajaya saja

love the coleus

You have lots of beautiful blooms to parade. I like the ulam raja flower. I can't wait to get hold of the seeds and grow it for its beauty, if not for the makan-makan. The blue flower (?) - I think it is Otacanthus caeruleus aka Brazilian Snapdragon or Amazon Blue. It has a lovely purple shade.

Pretty blooms!

It's always fun to visit your blog because I learn about plants I've never heard of before. But I'm very familiar with the Coleus varieties. Of course they grow as annuals here and die back during winter. But I love, love all the varieties. And your photos of all the plants are lovely!

Thank you Alistair.

Thank you Bangchik.Im just not very successful with orchids or roses, not that I havent tried!

Thank you Greggo!

Thanks Autumn Belle. Will send you the seeds as soon as I get the address from you.

The blue ruellia may be a weed but it sure is pretty.
I love the desert rose. It reminds me of mandevilla.
That coleus is gorgeous!
Your July garden has some beautiful blooms.
Your mulberry post brought back happy memories of the mulberry trees of my childhood in Australia. I'm sure the mulberry juice is delicious!
