Today's harvest, tomorrow's lunch..

Its the second time I pick the cherry tomatoes. I just love to pop them in my mouth for its sweet taste! The only plant that survived, has lots more fruits on it.

my harvest for today...ladiesfinger (okra), regular tomatoes, cherry tomatoes and one and only timun Jepun (Japanese cucumber), will have them for lunch tomorrow, today Im cooking pasta with minced meat in tomato sauce..

Im not sure whether its time to pick the cucumber, but I just cant leave it any longer on the plant...

I can see 3 holes puntured by 'dont know what' pest....

regular tomatoes last week...

my cherry tomatoes ripening....

must not leave them too long on the plant, or else the birds or the fox will get them first..

they are chillies after all, not capsicum..

long bean (kacang panjang) seedlings

These are from last year, the new seeds have not been sown yet except the balsam seeds I received by post today from Malar of My Little Garden. Thank you Malar for the seeds. Yesterday bought 20 packets of organic soil for new raised beds Im planning to do. I know its not enough when I saw Bangchik's 100 packets! I have to get a lot of bricks to make the raised beds too maybe one lorryful! In the mean time, will slowly sow the seeds I have bought and seeds given by Diana of Malay-Kadazan Girl. I can feel the thrills of seeing those seeds germinating into full blown plants and vegetables a few months from today. Happy gardening!

I think your deformed cucumber would have need more water but it is eatable. Your okra is beautiful! You picked it at the best time!

wow...so fresh haah. I really like the cherry tomato, nice to eat with 'kuah rojak' too. So healthy veggies!

I think your year round harvest wish is almost fullfilled. Some of my cucumbers look deformed too but I suspect because the fluctuating temperature that we have here.

The 3-holes means you never use pesticide.

They are organic.

Takaeko, more water meaning water them twice a day right, because at the moment, Im watering my veggies once a day only, is that why they are deformed, lack of water? Anyway thanks for the advice, appreciate it.

Makarimi, thank you..you seemed to be fond of kuah rojak, the ever versatile sauce for veggies and fruits! I prefer to eat the cherry tomatoes raw or in a salad but a lot of my dishes will have tomatoes as the last ingredient!

Diana, hopefully this year I have more harvest, thank you for being my inspiration to strive for more kitchen produce in my garden! Well, for you, maybe the fluctuating weather that gave the deformed shape of the cucumber, but as Takaeko said mine maybe because of not enough water.

Rainfield, actually I did use pesticide but not on the fruit, mostly on the flowers and leaves because of aphids. But my pesticide I bought at MAHA 2010 is without any chemicals only organic sources.

Some similarities in my garden. My tomatoes and red okra are ready to be harvested again. One of my red okra is curled like your cucumber. If it is a water issue, shouldn't all of them be curled too?

p3chandan said...

One, maybe the water issue is only with the cucumbers, since its content is 90% water anyway. With okra, Im not so sure..luckily mine are all straight!

Yummy! Hopefully the little hole creator did not take too much! You remind me I must put in my order for fresh veggies from a local farm. All Winter long local greens and root crops. Your cherry tomatoes look delicious! Enjoy your lunch!

Your fence is ngam-ngam good fit to support your tomato plants! You made me wanna laugh talking about Bangchik's 100 packs of soil. LOL.
Fyi, i used up 300 packs of soil for my 4 raised bed, and the beds look so empty still.

Carol, thank you. Im not sure yet whether the cucumber is ok inside, will see tomorrow when I make lunch!

Milka, thats the idea when I brought all my veggies to the backyard..because of the chain fence so that I dont have to make extra support (lazy me!). Wah so many packets ahh, 300! Maybe your raised beds are wider than mine..:)

vegetable gardening is satisfying when we can pick a few for the kitchen.... even if some are deformed like your chili....

It is nice to see you at least get some harvest from your hobby. May i share a bit of 'something' here, if i may, hope you dont mind. Curled cucumbers means the other side did not grow properly, in your case because it was injured by insects. Sometimes that side is not pollinated so aborted seeds at that area, and the fruit doesnt grow there. It's not water which is the culprit. Your tomatoes also look so elongated and lanky, maybe it is nutrient deficient. A good Nitrogen rich fertilizer at seedling stage will improve the vegetative stage, and complete or potassium rich one during flowering will be for more and bigger fruits. So a better-healthy growing seedling produce more and healthy-looking harvest. Your longbean seedling is N-deficient at this stage, a good organic or N-rich fertilizer is better be given now, haha! Happy eating.

Bangchik, definitely the veggies from our own garden taste sweeter even if its deformed like my timun jepun..:)

Andrea, thank you for telling me all these, so informative! Maybe you are right about the nutrient deficiencies but the cherry tomatoes when I bought them from the supermarket, they were shaped like that, a bit elogated. Although there's some are round like cherries (their namesake). But the regular tomatoes are round like normal ones.Anyway, I will take your advice, and will give them a good dose of fertiliser. Thank you again!
