Monday's Harvests

This morning I harvested my green vegetables and young sweetcorns. The hot and wet season we are experiencing now has done a lot of good to my vegetables. They are thriving but because of my busy schedule since last week, I have no time to harvest them. A few of them are showing some flowers!

from left: white and green pak choys (the stems), first time green and red spinachs (bayam), second time kangkung (water spinach) and eggplants

young sweetcorns and cute little capsicums for stir-fry mixed veggies

Milka and FoodsoDelicious were asking about my pumpkins. Here are some photos showing those little fruits. I tried hand pollinations to help them, not sure these will be successful in forming pumpkins. Hope they dont drop off please....

So my lunch today consisted of those greens I harvested this morning. I blanched everything. The kangkungs, long beans and bean sprouts are made into pecal, a local salad eaten with a hot spicy peanut sauce.

blanched kangkungs, long beans, bean sprouts and fried fermented soya bean (tempe) with the hot and spicy peanut sauce

The rest of the veggies - pak choys, green and red spinachs are also blanched with cauliflower, brocolli, sweetcorns, cubed red apples, pear eaten with mayonaise. Emmmm...I can eat this everyday!

Sorry, if my photos are haphazardly arranged...its just one of those things that is beyond my control..hehehe

Wahh... so bountiful your harvest!! I am so envious! Hehehehe.. I wish my garden will give me such lovely vegetables.

Oooh!!! The pumpkin is so pretty.. ya, I hope they dont fall off too... too pretty to fall off la.. hopefully, there will be a few lovely big ones for you to make lots of delicious foodstuff out of it. Btw, I just saw a recipe that says Pumpkin, carrot cranberry cake. It looks absolutely delish! Might make that and post for you to have a look..

Yoiu are most welcome Milka, hope the pumpkins will grow and not fall off...thats mean they are not pollinated. I used to go once a month for hotel buffets, I will attack all the prawns first and I can gain 1 or 2 kgs in one sitting! Now, will refrain for buffets...not good for my body and health!

Rani thanks. Those young sweet corns I will add to stir-fry vegetables.

Thank you Food. Usually pumpkins are made into lepat, pengat or masak lemak. I would love to try your pumpkin, carrot cranberry cake!

You do eat very healthy. Mostly veggies and without pesticides too. You know that Pizza Hut has a 50% off promo now? That's what we had for dinner; Pizza. It wasn't sufficient, so had to top up with chicken wings and spaghetti. Must learn to eat healthy food like you. I like those fermented soya beans, tempe.

Congratulation on your bountiful harvest. Great idea with pecal. I still have some frozen peanut sauce but need to shop for tauhu and tempe.

Not only do you grow your own veg you actually eat it also. I stopped smoking, I stopped drinking, well almost. I may not grow them but I think I will start eating veg other than frozen peas.

You must be very healthy.

Both from the result of the gardening work and healthy food.

Alistair, well each of us have our own little vice. I used to gorge myself with comfort food but now I refrain myself and eat only healthy food. I love veggies thats why I grow them, and I save quite a bit if I dont buy them from the mart.Im happier since I have my vegetable plot!

Yes Holly, it does taste as good as it looks!

Thank you Masha..it was part of my new year project and Ive successfully grown more greens in my vegetable garden!

Thanks Mud..soon I will be jealous of yours!

I try to be Rainfield, my weakness is all those fast food like pizza, McD, pastries! I love food too much!

Regarding your question for the Pineapple-Rosemary Sorbet, I have updated my post, it is right at the bottom, for the method of doing it manually, hope it helps, email me if anymore questions! :) Check it out! Have a nice gardening day!

There's nothing quite like a salad mixed from fresh veggies out your own garden, is there!? So worth the time and effort, but sayang, I've been slow to get a garden started.

Thanks Joy for your kind thoughts and trouble, you are a darling! Peanut sauce? No secret lor..you can buy it ready-to-mix nowadays..so easy one!

Yes Karin, its so lovely to get my wish to have more greens in my veggie plot for the first time! I love food, so I grow those veggies I love to eat!

You are right Francisca, its been worthwhile making those back-breaking new veggie beds and now I got to eat the veggies of my labour!
